Wait Patiently
David new what it was like to have struggles and hardships. How many people do you know who have had the king try to kill them and their son steal their job? Too be sure, many of David’s hardships were of his own making, but they were hardships none the less. There must have been many times that he threw up his hands and asked, “Why me, Lord, and why now?”
When was the last time you asked that question? Why me, Lord, and why now?” Was it after a tragic accident or in the midst of a lingering illness? Maybe it was a bad decision and now you’re dealing with the consequences. It could be a battle with depression or a toxic relationship. Whatever it is, it’s hard.
We would love the Lord to lay out all the details of why he allowed certain hardships in our life, but he has chosen not to do that. Instead he tells us to wait patiently, and trust that he will make everything clear. That’s not easy to do, especially when it seems as though the Lord is picking on us or at least forgotten us. But faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see (Heb 11:1).
There is an empty grave in Jerusalem where Jesus’ once-dead body used to be that assures you he is not picking on you, and he has by no means forgotten you. On the contrary, he is alive and well and his loving eyes are fixed on you. His attentive ears are listening to your cries and his powerful arms will take care of you in just the right way on just the right day. Be patient.
Like my old professor used to say, “Someday we will see clearly, that he has loved us dearly.”
I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. – Psalm 40:1
