Shadow of Death

Death could be anywhere. It could be in the cells that are growing or the clot that’s forming. It’s in the venom of the snake or the bottom of a pool. It might be on the other side of the face mask or at the next intersection. Death is not just hanging in the shadows; it is the shadow that hangs over this sin-cursed world.

It can be frightening living in death's shadow. Do you obsess over health to deal with the fear? Are you medicating with drugs or alcohol to cope with the inevitable? Denial or avoidance is a strategy for some, but the statistic remains the same…one out of every one person still dies. Walking through this life is truly walking through the valley of the shadow of death.

Can I introduce you to a Shepherd who changes everything? He left the brightness of the heavens to live in this shadow of death for a time. He assumed your sin and endured its consequences. He slayed the devil and sentenced him to hell. He walked alone into death and came out alive. Now he lives to walk with you through the shadows. His rod and staff are always in hand to fight off evil and keep you close to him.

Don’t be afraid. Step for step, your Shepherd is with you in the shadow until he walks you through the shadow of death to the place where shadows are no more. Your Shepherd is the light of life, you have nothing to fear…nothing!

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and staff, they comfort me. - Psalm 23:4
