Love Does Not Envy
God gave you the people around you to love, not to envy. In fact, you can’t love someone properly if you are envious of them. When we envy someone, they become a rival or a competitor. Real love does not envy. Instead, love's joy increases when other’s grow in abilities, wealth, health, gifts, and reputation.
That kind of love does not come naturally to us. Sin has so warped the human heart that we envy others and want others to envy us. That’s not love.
Real love is what Jesus expressed on the cross. Jesus could have been envious that His Father in heaven would want us to be in his family. Sinful that we are, we certainly didn’t deserve it. But in love, he didn’t consider us rivals. Instead, he gave up his throne to give us the crown. He took our sin and gave us his perfection. Now alive again, he rejoices to see you in the family, sharing in all sorts of blessings.
Jesus’ love for you will never run out, nor will his blessings. Let the promise of his love and blessing wash away your envy. God has given you exactly what you need to use you right where he’s got you. Trust him.
